Aama is formed due to improper digestion. So basically, anything that improves digestion can reduce aama.

Best household remedy is langhan, meaning taking no food or very light food till you feel hunger pangs. Once you are really hungry, then you can eat. This reduces aam drastically. Follow this once or twice a week till there is no white coating on tongue. But do not overdo this, do it logically so that no weakness is felt.

Second remedy is always drink hot water till aam is reduced.

Turmeric reduces aam, and so do most spices like sunthi (dry ginger) ,mire (pepper) etc. Most of the hot (Tikha)indian spices used in curries reduce aam , but as all things when not done in moderation are bad, spices are similarly harmful in excess quantities and can increase acidity.

Prevention is better than cure.. To avoid formation of aama, imagine your stomach to be made of 3 equal parts. Fill one part with solid food, one with liquid and keep one empty. In other words, eat less. Dont eat till you feel that stomach is full. Stop before that.
